Music Highway: An Explanation & Introduction
The name Music Highway actually represents a number of things from our perspective. First of all, Music Highway is the name of a weekly radio show hosted and produced by my partner Wes Henley and myself. Secondly, Music Highway is the name of an actual stretch of Interstate Highway (I-40) that runs through my hometown of Jackson, Tennessee that was designated as such by the State of Tennessee Legislature a few years ago.
The stretch of highway, that runs through Nashville, Jackson, and Memphis was designated as Music Highway because it passes through the two major music capitals mentioned previously and because it is a main highway traveled by the most legendary music artists and musicians from all music genres over the past fifty years.
Thirdly, Music Highway represents the "figurative" road musicians, artists and songwriters travel on their way to the fulfillment of their musical dreams and aspirations. This road is not, by any stretch, easy but nonetheless exciting as it unfolds before all that travel it. It is a road of dedication, joy, pain, perservance, hard work, tragedy and triumph. But, it is a road knowingly chosen by so many following the creative urge to be heard by whoever will listen.
To all the various things Music Highway represents and to all who have ever, is now, or ever will choose to travel this way we dedicate this blog. In memory of all our musical heroes who influenced us all in a myriad of ways we dedicate this blog as well.
May each of us that, to any degree, trek the Music Highway leave footprints of positive influence for all those who will come after us and may we reverently respect all the creativity, sweat, tears and accomplishments that have been experienced along the way here.
All this being said, The Music Highway blog will be a platform to encourage, promote and edify our brother and sister musicians, artists and songwriters. We intend to accomplish this via all that is written here, our radio show, and by the comments and posts of all you who find value in The Music Highway.
